Not a bad idea ...

A new source of hope for the uninsured needing medications will soon open in Johnson City.

The Northeast Tennessee Dispensary of Hope held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday bringing together four years of efforts by local volunteers, Mountain States Health Alliance and East Tennessee State University. The Dispensary will be providing medications to patients within the coming weeks.

The Dispensary of Hope is a not-for-profit pharmacy that helps those who qualify get medications they need. Qualification is for those without insurance coverage for medications and who are at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level. That equates to an annual salary of $15,600 for an individual or $31,800 for a family of four. Working like a regular pharmacy, the Dispensary provides short- and long-term assistance for those who are uninsured. There is no charge for those medications once a person receives approval.

The Dispensary will not carry or provide any controlled substances, such as pain killers or anti-anxiety medications.

The Dispensary will also be working with the larger, statewide Dispensary of Hope network – which has recently expanded to an additional six states – to help stock the shelves in the Johnson City location.
The Dispensary is located at 401 Elm St., Johnson City, near the Downtown Clinic. For more information, call 423-431-1570.
